St. Cloud State University recognized for excellence in teacher education

WASHINGTON, DC—Three public universities have been honored for leadership and innovation in teacher education. St. Cloud State University, the University of Northern Colorado, and Western Carolina University have been named the 2007 recipients of the Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence in Teacher Education by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). New Preparation Program in Special Education: Blind or Visually Impaired
The Minnesota Collaborative Teacher Preparation Program in Special Education: Blind or Visually Impaired is a joint venture between the Minnesota Department of Education, seven of the state’s universities, and practitioners from the field of blindness and visual impairments in Minnesota (more).
St. Cloud State University Announces Co-Teaching Program Results

St. Cloud State University announced today the high-impact results of a co-teaching program piloted in five area school districts during the 2004-2005 school year.
The co-teaching initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, paired a classroom teacher with an SCSU student teacher to plan, organize, deliver and assess instruction in the classroom. Research indicates the pilot program positively impacted more than 6,300 students in grades pre-kindergarten to 12 in the five school districts.
